The Association for Mormon Letters is pleased to announce the winners of the
2010 Charlotte and Eugene England Personal Essay contest. A committee of
judges considered 47 entries and awarded three cash prizes as well as an
honorable mention.
- First place ($200): “Ghosts, Demons, Ancestors, and Offspring” by Kerry
Spencer of West Jordan, Utah - Second place ($150): “When Trees Fall” by Melissa McQuarrie of Provo, Utah
- Third place ($100): “Four Faces of a Rhetorical Triangle” by James Goldberg
of Pleasant Grove, Utah
Honorable mention: “Of Gods and Waterfalls” by Sheldon Lawrence of Rexburg,
Idaho
Next year’s personal essay contest will be announced in early 2011. With no
official connection to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, The
Charlotte and Eugene England Personal Essay Contest is funded by the Eugene
England Foundation.
