What makes this story appropriate for Short Story Friday is not the content of the work or the religious affiliation of the author, but rather the fact that the translator is LDS and introduced in to an LDS context (his circle of friends on Facebook — and then by submitting it to me). It’s a short dialogue between a Catholic bishop and his impish, philisophical conversant.

Were you able to use cognates when translating all of the word pairs? Or were there cases where you had to replace a pair of words with another pair of words with different roots?

The key terms were all cognates, which made translating it a breeze. It may have taken as long to decide to translate it as the actual translation took. I loved he wodplay from the start, but it took a while to realize that the translation would work so well.
Once I saw that it would work so well, I couldn’t not do it.
